Wow, that last post was HEAVY! Things have been going better. I was being very pessimistic. Also, I found myself being very bitter toward Brian and I am working on that. It's not like he tied me up and dragged me here, I agreed to come here so I'm not really being fair, and of course I don't want Lydia being around someone directing that kind of energy at her Da Da Da.
Anyhoos, here are the different things going on...
ON HOUSING:
Still living in the basement. We've looked at a couple of places in Madison but nothing great yet. I would like to do a rent to own situation. They are doing that around there a lot now because the market is pretty soft, which is nice. I certainly think we should take advantage of it.
ON ME BEING DIFFICULT:
The first couple of weeks here were pretty stressful. Brian had a talk to everyone to effect of "Duck probably won't say anything, but if the t.v. is left on while she's here she will just take Lydia and leave or not come over much." He didn't say it in a threatening way, more in an informative way. Now, as if I'm not difficult enough to deal with I'm thinking of putting a ban on all things made in China what with all the lead and Lydia's birthday coming up. I'm already gearing up to throw out almost every bit of clothing I have (mostly because I'm sick of looking at clothes that don't fit and I've had for 15 years) and start buying organic and American Apparel. I try to keep Lydia in natural fibers mostly but Brian's mom likes to shop the sale rack at K-Mart. She has been really good about keeping away from all the princess and Disney shit so I have to give her credit. I know I am basically speaking a different language to her. We had a lovely awkward moment at lunch the other day. She goes to lunch every day at 11:30 and apparently this cannot be altered. She has been inviting Lydia and I to join her but we had not yet because:
1. Lydia takes her morning nap at 11a.m.
2. She goes to the most heinous of places to have lunch (McDonalds, Culver's, etc...)
So I decided that Lydia and I would be flexible and she could take her nap a little late and we went with her, on my stipulation that we go to a local diner, Gyro's, which serves breakfast all day instead of some fast food joint. We ordered our food, about 5 bucks worth each. After we ordered she said, "Next time we will go somewhere a little cheaper (ahem, wha?). Do you ever go to Taco Bell?" I just smiled and said my usual (I've said it to her before) "Nope Sue, I don't eat fast food."
She looked at me with this strange blankness on her face. It just DOES NOT compute. Then she said, "Well they have this delicious crunch wrap."
Anyways, I'm not really a preachy witch. I never try to push any of my stuff on them. Well, I am a little pushy to Brian but he is my husband and he drinks things that are really unnatural florescent shades of blue and green. He has quit soda for months now which is a REALLY BIG DEAL.
ON LIVING IN THE BASEMENT(AND MORE OF MY PARANOIA):
So we are still in the basement. Apparently there is this stuff, this radioactive stuff that leaks out of rocks and seeps into basements. It is called Radon and it is the 2nd leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. Yeah, and my baby is sleeping in a basement in the part of the country with the most Radon. I looked up this zip code specifically and it is very, very bad. My in-laws have not had their basement checked but there is a fan in the ceiling that might be what they put in when large quantities are detected so I leave that on. Upon reading more I found that you "probably" have to spend a large amount of time for a few years for the Radon to really get to you. Still, I need to get my baby out of this basement.
ON WISCONSIN IN GENERAL:
The weather is really nice here, well, it rained a lot last week but it was still nice to walk in between showers. There is a trail here in Waukesha that goes around the Fox River. We like to walk there and Lydia loves the ducks. We bring them bread and then we have to outrun them because they try to follow us. One tried to eat Lydia's toes. I don't blame him one bit.
There are BUNNIES, bunnies everywhere! One night on a drive to the grocery store (3 minutes away) we counted 13 bunnies! Lydia finally saw one the other day on our walk (they are usually sort of far away or well camoflaged in the grass) and she pointed and squealed. (She started pointing at things a couple of weeks ago at the zoo and it's adorable)
I saw some orange leaves at the top of some trees today. It will be so pretty just in time for my baby's 1st birthday. Seasons are fantastic. It's like I'm living in my Animal Crossing game. What is a season you Texans might ask? Look it up!
ON MY BABY:
I'm going to start a Lydia blog. She's doing new things so rapidly now. I will get to work on that...
