Wisconsin. Unemployed. Harry Potter.
Well. We are now in Wisconsin to stay. Our camp for now is in the basement of my sister-in-law's house. It's not too bad. We have a couch, television with cable + dvd, storage room, shower, washer and dryer, we put our bed down here so we can sit/watch t.v. (with the closed captioning on) while Lydia sleeps on the bed.
My ban on television is turning out (expectedly) to be one of the major problems around here so far. Lydia's 2 month younger cousin lives here and she LOVES him. Problem is, I don't want her playing in the living room with the t.v. on. I don't want her watching television PERIOD. Lydia's Aunt and Uncle have the opposite view of me and have no problem leaving the t.v. on all day. I'm not even talking about Sesame Street either, not that it would matter. I don't want Lydia watching t.v. at all. They have on the worst shit: Oprah, Springer, Judge Judy, etc... If it is mindless pablum it's on in their living room. Her Aunt boasted to me once when little Cuz was 3 months old or so,
"He sat in his swing last night and watched American Idol with me without making a sound!" I think I actually threw up a little when she said this.
At her grandparents house the t.v. is on constantly as well. I can't leave her there to play while I do schoolwork, etc... Brian tried to explain to them that I am not going to let them babysit Lydia as long as they have the t.v. on. They don't understand that I don't care if it's baseball, I don't care if it's Mr. Roger's even though I adore him. NO T.V. PERIOD.
I'm sure I'm coming off as a HUGE bitch but I don't care. This is what I want for Lydia. I have had to cave on so many things I want to do for her, especially lately with the complete disruption of her enviroment. She's gone from the stimulating, colorful environment that I had set up at our home to a room decorated with shot glasses and dart boards and Camaro posters (The basement is used as their rec room).
I'm keeping Brian awake. He put on his Ipod to drown out my typing. I got awoken by Little Cuz crying for 2 hours. His mom works 3rd shift and he doesn't go to sleep until 2 am. This is not my business but for a lot of reasons it's making me a nervous wreck worrying about him. I keep looking up things about sleep deprivation in babies and finding terrible things about causes of chemical imbalances etc... I just won't post on this anymore if I can help it because it's really upsetting to me yet there is nothing I can do about it without interfering and being a know it all.
Uh-oh, Lydia doesn't have an Ipod and my typing is waking her. I didn't even get to the Harry Potter part. More tomorrow...
